*About TAG*



The Treatment Action Group (TAG), is an independent AIDS research and
policy think tank fighting for better treatment, a vaccine, and a cure for
AIDS. TAG works to ensure that all people with HIV receive lifesaving
treatment, care, and information.



*About the TB/HIV Project*



Despite being curable, globally TB is a leading cause of death amongst
people with HIV.  Current diagnostics, drugs, and vaccines have
shortcomings and pose substantial challenges to prevent, diagnose, and
treat TB, particularly among people with HIV.



To address these challenges, TAG’s TB/HIV project focuses on global policy,
universal access, and research advocacy. The goals of the Project are to
achieve universal access to high-quality TB and TB/HIV services, and to
accelerate progress in research and development (R&D) for better tools to
prevent, diagnose, treat and cure TB (including in people with HIV).



*Job Description*



The Director of the TB/HIV Project will advocate for development and roll
out of tools, strategies, and policies in line with the priorities of TAG's
TB/HIV Project to achieve universal access to quality services for TB and
TB/HIV.



The Director will report to TAG's Executive Director and will work closely
with him, the TB/HIV Project Assistant Director, and other TAG staff and
consultants to catalyze global leadership to accelerate momentum toward
universal access and to accelerate funding and progress in R&D for better
tools to prevent, diagnose and treat TB.



Key areas of work of the Director will include:



·      Managing contracts and grants, and support the Executive Director to
diversify funding for the project;

·      Creating annual work and evaluation plans in conjunction with
project staff;

·      Supervising the TB/HIV Assistant Director and other consultants as
needed;

·      Advocating with key research institutions and funders for the
development of improved tools to prevent, diagnose and treat TB and TB/HIV
coinfection;

·      Working with the Stop TB Partnership, UNAIDS, UNITAID, the Global
Fund, the World Health Organization, and others to ensure that policies and
guidelines aimed at ensuring access to vaccines, diagnostics and drugs are
based on the best available evidence;

·      Collaborating with fellow activists and partner organizations from
the public and private sectors to address critical issues in TB research
including TB diagnostics, drug, and vaccine development, TB/HIV
coinfection, childhood TB, and drug resistant TB;

·      Tracking and providing critical analyses of TB R&D and policies;

·      Coordinating TAG’s efforts to strengthen community engagement in TB
research and specifically support a global TB community advisory board and
the Centers for Disease Control’s community research advisory group, the
CRAG;

·      Strengthening research, treatment, and policy literacy among TB and
TB/HIV activists, and supporting global and national level activism to
increase research and access to essential tools to prevent, diagnose, and
treat TB;

·      Conducting research and keeping up to date on scientific literature
on TB and TB/HIV-related research, treatment, policy, and programs;

·      Representing TAG at national and international conferences and
meetings;

·      Developing policy and scientific reports and presentations for TAG;

·      Speaking with the press on behalf of TAG;

·      Participating in community-based, government, and international
panels and committees which develop TB/HIV research and treatment policy;

·      Coordinating workshops and meetings of activists, this will include
development of agenda, content, materials, facilitation, and some
coordination of logistics.



The Director of TB/HIV Project should have:



·      At least five (5) years of experience in program and contract
management, supervising staff, creating, and tracking budgets;

·      Good research, writing and communication skills;

·      A broad-based understanding of health research, knowledge of HIV/TB
treatment, policy and programs preferred;

·      Experience in curriculum development and facilitation;

·      Experience in research and treatment advocacy;

·      Proven ability to write reports that provide critical analysis,
address gaps and highlight solutions;

·      Ability to facilitate workshops and meetings;

·      Experience in coalition building and ability to work with external
partners;

·      Comfort working autonomously as well as in teams;

·      Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 33% of
time);

·      Commitment to working in a diverse environment and excellent
communication and teamwork skills.



TAG encourages applications from those with background and experience in
HIV/AIDS or TB community-based treatment activism or public health
programs, but will consider applicants with significant relevant experience
in allied fields.



TAG is a small, close-knit organization whose staff are provided with
substantial autonomy in achieving their objectives and encouraged to
develop innovative approaches to advocacy.

affected by TB, and gay, lesbian, bisexual, and/or transgendered people are
encouraged to apply.

The position is open immediately. TAG's office is located in New York City.
The TB/HIV Project Coordinator will be expected to live in or relocate to
New York. Extensive travel and a flexible schedule are anticipated.

The salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications,
experience, and the responsibilities of the position. TAG offers a
