As I mentioned in my last posting, it will take a couple of weeks for me to sort out the state-level breakdowns in DRCNet. Bear with me until then. The following information is intended for those "Michiganders" and others interested in Michigan activities:

The Michigan House of Representatives is currently considering passing Senate bill 234 to drastically increase cannabis penalties in the state. Some new/increased penalties of SB 234 include:
1. $500.00 minimum fine statewide for possession on ANY amount of cannabis.
2. The legal right for police to sell cannabis (and other controlled substances)
and then arrest the buyer(s). Police call this "reverse sting operations".
3. MAJOR increases in fines and prison time for cultivation, possession,
delivery, and almost all existing cannabis penalties in Michigan.
The Lansing, MI based PROGRESSIVE ACTION ALLIANCE! has given testimony at several state legislature hearings on SB 234. The majority of the legislature has totally ignored the call for rational cannabis policy in Michigan. They won't even consider it. Now it is time for DIRECT CITIZEN ACTION IN MICHIGAN!
