(DRCNet will periodically distribute a calendar of upcoming events of interest to reformers -- TV programs, lectures, rallies, conferences, etc. We would greatly appreciate any information you can share with us to help us make the calendar as complete as possible.)
Two TV programs coming up:
Thursday, January 18th, 1996, 4pm
Consciousness Wars & the Mutating Body of Modernity
Jay Stevens, author of Storming Heaven: LSD and the American Dream, explores
the extent to which advanced industrialized societies make war on some
drugs and bodystates, while promoting others. Stevens analyzes a subconscious
agenda of such societies: the attempt to identify, maintain, and even formally
legislate a "normal" spectrum of consciousness.
Thursday, February 1st, 1996, 4pm
Controlled Hedonism: The Evolution of Ecstasy
Marsha Rosenbaum, Ph.D., co-author of Pursuit of Ecstasy: The MDMA Experience
and director of the new San Francisco office of The Lindesmith Center ("TLC-West"),
analyzes the nature and context of controlled use of psychedelics among
middle-class Americans. Dr. Rosenbaum is also author of Women on Heroin,
Just Say What? and (forthcoming) Pregnancy and Illegal Drug Use.

data, including the most recent national survey, and discusses why the
federal government has not responded to this evidence by lifting the ban
on funding these programs. Dr. Paone is a senior research associate and
principal investigator at Beth Israel Medical Center's Chemical Dependency
Institute.
